Sabino Loffredo is one of the most talented winemakers in southern Italy. Because he had to give up his athletic career after an accident, the wine taster moved to the Pietracupa family estate in Montefredane at the turn of the millennium, which was still managed by his father Peppino, where he gradually expanded his project and has took the company to the top in just a few years.
Thanks to his know-how and his great determination, Sabino has managed to produce wines in a personal and unmistakable style that are highly appreciated far beyond Campania. Today, he works very seriously and rather quietly; he is not only regarded as one of the most successful newcomers and one of the best producers of fragrant mineral white wines, but also as a much sought after producer of spicy and elegant red wines.
The vineyards of Pietracupa reach heights of up to 800 meters above sea level. The soils are loamy and limestone. Thanks to good south-eastern locations, the vines benefit from a microclimate with sufficiently high temperature variations, which allows the grapes to ripen very well.
It is quite astonishing to see how Sabino, with his own sensitivity, succeeds again and again in the Azienda Vinicola Pietracupa in making wines with high aging potential from the great varieties fiano and greco. The white wines from the small farm, located in the province of Avellino, which reliably represent the Avellino terroir, are vinified without maceration and malolactic fermentation. They are stored in steel barrels for up to several months in the yeast residues from fermentation before being bottled. The juicy and characteristic red wines based on the local grape aglianico are in no way inferior to other creations in terms of purity and stylistic individuality.
Sabino Loffredo's successes in the vineyard and in the cellar, which were initially often seen as the surprise results of a stranger, have already been hailed several times by wine critics. The awards have contributed to the fact that the wines of Pietracupa have conquered a certain place among the best Italian wines.
