Coteaux du Languedoc AOP
France - Languedoc
Marlène Soria's work is unique in the Languedoc.
Her wines are inseparable from the will and charisma of their creator. Mysterious, magical, sometimes inexplicable, they impose a stylistic unity and a capacity to age, especially the whites, true UFOs for the region. The Oro cuvée, made from rolle, roussanne and viognier, aged for almost ten years in vats and bottles and which has been produced on the heights of Saint-Pargoire since the beginning of the 1990s, is as limited as it is coveted. The reds, on the other hand, are quite tightly woven, even hard. Dominated by a solar syrah from very low yields, they are aged for a long time in the cellar in order to civilise their tannins (a minimum of two years in vats, doubled by the same amount of time in the bottle).
The old vintages are a must!
A perfectly crafted blend of vermentino and roussanne (and a touch of viognier), Oro is proof that the south can produce great mineral whites destined to age well. Since 2002, part of the wine is aged in tuns and the rest in vats.
Located on the stony hillsides, slightly above sea level, the vines on this terroir with its arid climate produce very small berries, resulting in lower yields and more concentrated wines. After a long maturation period (in vats and tuns), there follows a substantial maturation in bottle before marketing.
Grape varieties :
70% vermentino, 25% roussanne and 5% viognier.
Tasting notes:
The colour is deep, aged gold and very bright. The aromatics reveal an insolent greediness in a fresh roasted fruit: candied citrus, dried apricot, honeyed wax and candied white and yellow fruits. Depth and evolution in the glass are remarkable! On the palate, there is a straightforward, powerful, dry wine with an impressive minerality.
Wine style :
Deep and complex dry white wine.
Food and wine pairing:
Blanquette of ceps. Bresse poultry fillet in a nut and curry crust, creamy polenta with spices.
Ageing potential in your cellar :
15 years
Analysis :
75 cl - 13,5 % volume
Contains sulphites

It is in the heart of the garrigue, west of Montpellier, that Marlène Soria has been writing, for more than forty years, one of the most inspiring wine stories in the region.
After a career in real estate, the neo-vigneronne moved to Saint-Pargoire in 1980, moving closer to the plant and away from the world. Indefatigable clearing, it will quickly plant vineyards around its property.
Some 17 hectares of vineyards are rooted in three years. The property now totals 24. Extremely respectful viticulture is required immediately.
This 25-hectare estate consists of 23 hectares of red (Syrah at 70% then Black Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan) and 2 hectares of white (Roule 50%, Roussane 40%, and various grape varieties including Viognier).
At Marlene Soria, patience is necessary, with very long, poorly marked farms, to let the skate of time do its work.
The reds have energy, tension, and a lot of structure that takes time to calm down their juvenile fervour. They express a formidable paradox, between aromatic perfumed and delicate and muscle abundance.
As for the white, Oro, the golden door of the estate, its mouth touch refines every year, as well as renewed touch and aromatic emotions. A small rarity, both by its profile and by the very small volumes produced.
