The other vintages of:
Chris and Suzaan Alheit are husband and wife in life and partners in the winery and in the vineyard. A true family affair as Chris' parents are also involved in the business!
The Alheits have worked in the wine industry in Cape Town, but also in California, Western and South Australia, Germany in the Mosel Valley and have travelled to some of the world's greatest wine producing countries. They look to Europe as their wine-making model and are convinced that South Africa's wine-growing terroirs can produce great wines.
The philosophy of the estate is essentially based on the terroir and the reflection of its expression in the wines, which must be manipulated as little as possible. Fermentations are therefore carried out with indigenous yeasts. The resulting wines must be graceful, not body-built.
The Alheit's passion is white wine because they believe that their country is better suited to white than red grapes. It should be remembered that South Africa produces both in roughly equal parts. The Alheit are fortunate to have access to splendid old chenin blanc vineyards.
The grapes are hand-picked and cooled for a short skin maceration before pressing without de-stemming. They are then transferred to barrels (not new) for alcoholic fermentation. From this point on, the wine is left alone until bottling.
