Domaine Le Conte des Floris
Cartagène noire LBV 2014
France - Languedoc
Cartagène, cartagena in Occitan, is a traditional and typical Languedoc liqueur wine (mistelle). It is obtained from must of fresh grapes and wine brandy.
Vinification:
Cold settling, direct entonnage, mutage with alcohol aged in barrels for 2 years, aging for 2 years in barrels not topped up.
Grape varieties:
Grenache noir, a touch of mourvèdre
Tasting Notes:
The color is intense, slightly marked on the edge of the disc by tiled reflections. The nose evokes the cherry, then evolves towards notes of almonds and nuts and all the aromatic palette characteristic of rancios. This oxidative side does not appear at all at the attack on the palate where the fresh fruit surprises very pleasantly: a lot of greed and the well integrated sugar brings a welcome smoothness. There remains a very nice impression of very ripe black fruits (cherry, blackcurrant) which make you think of a vintage port.
Wine style:
Mistelle rouge (sweet)
Food and wine :
Foie gras in black cartagene jelly, red fruit chutney on anise brioche. Steak of deer in cocoa nibs, pan-fried morels.
Aging potential in your cellar:
10 years
Analytic :
50 cl - 16% volume
Contains sulfites

It was in 2000 that Daniel Le Conte des Floris, former journalist of the Revue du Vin de France, took the plunge by creating an exciting estate in Pézenas. Its Burgundy formation is reflected in its taste for the variation of terroirs, the delicate management of barrel farming and, ultimately, in wines favouring aromatic complexity and freshness.
Word of mouth has made its whites stars of Languedoc, forerunners for their intense, precise and greedy style, with a preserved breath. It is essential to look for its White Moon cuvée from the rare white Carignan grape variety. Deep and of great care, it is one of the greatest Mediterranean white wines!
In red, finesse dominates, around the variations of the terroir with the vintages Villafranchien (grenache) and Carboniferous (syrah). Homo Habilis is a long-lasting wine based on mourvèdre.
The wines sometimes need one or two years of care to find their marks but they become sumptuous with a few years of cellar.
