Nestled at the foot of the Pyrenean foothills, Domaine Gayda is located in Brugairolles south-west of Carcassonne in the Languedoc.
Owners Tim Ford and Anthony Record teamed up with winemaker Vincent Chansault in 2004, creating a new face modern wine in Languedoc-Roussillon.
On the site of the famous "Moscow treeWe built the cellar, the restaurant and the shop. This iconic tree takes its name from the land titles of the vineyards that surround the estate. The tree was a navigation beacon used by the pioneers of the Aeropostale, an air postal service made famous by pilots such as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Domaine Gayda is passionate about traditional grape varieties grown on the many soils and climates of Languedoc. Varieties such as cabernet franc and chenin have been planted in the original property where Atlantic climatic influences allow these imported varieties to flourish. While the vineyards are firmly anchored in the tradition and the terroirs, the cellar itself is under the sign of theinnovation, with investments in all state-of-the-art equipment and technologies ensuring that winemaking and maturation take place in optimal conditions.
At Domaine Gayda, everyone believes in a balance between innovation and tradition. Although the winery has state-of-the-art equipment and technology, they remain very attached to traditional grape varieties through the diversity of Languedoc terroirs. To express the authenticity of the wines, they make sure to preserve the artisanal and natural side of winemaking.
The approach to clean and organic viticulture is motivated by respect for the natural environment to offer high quality wines.
By bringing together grapes from different Languedoc terroirs, Domaine Gayda aims to extract the best of Languedoc by producing quality wines with sunny tastes and flavours.
At Domaine Gayda, grapes from vineyards in Brugairolles rub shoulders with grapes from the old vines of the Livinière and plots of partner winemakers selected for the quality of their terroir and their know-how. The grape varieties are traditional and reflect all the diversity of Languedoc.
Yields are naturally controlled and vines balanced to obtain optimal concentrations. The vines are treated naturally without chemical fertilizers or weedkillers, the goal is to find a balance with nature. Domaine Gayda has been certified in organic farming since 2011.
The harvest is manual and the harvest is done in 20 kg crates to avoid the grapes piling up. For the plots furthest from the cellar, the transport of the harvest is done by refrigerated truck to preserve the quality of the grapes.
The winery built in 2004 benefits from the latest technologies but the practices implemented by Vincent Chansault who runs the winery and the winery are deliberately traditional and artisanal in order to preserve the integrity of the grapes as much as possible. Thus, the harvest is sorted manually and then gently transported to stainless steel vats for fermentation. The wines are aged between 9 months and 2 years, in oak barrels for the most complex wines.
By implementing clean and sustainable viticulture, Domaine Gayda has the will to safeguard the natural environment while offering the consumer quality wines.
In the world's largest wine region, Domaine Gayda strives to create a wine whose provenance and sense of "being" reflect the quality and diversity of Languedoc-Roussillon.
