Julie Benau

Chichois à la Baraquette 2019

Vin de France

France - Languedoc

Julie Benau makes this piquepoul wine on the edge of the Thau basin, a lagoon famous for its oysters from Bouzigues, near Sète.

"Chichois", in the Sétois country, is a huge mess, obviously generated by the hysteria of the demons of the Grand Foutoir. "Chichois à la baraquette" is the absolute superlative form of this expression, which has no equivalent in any French city, or even in any port, even Mediterranean.

The label represents our winegrower (Julie has a lot of humor!), Work entitled "Julie" by New York artist Brandon McQueen.

Domaine de Creyssels

Henri and Josiane Benau bought the estate in 1982. The estate was then abandoned, and the old stone constantly requires investment. Thus, the winemaking business had to be completed.

In 2000, Julie, their daughter, decided to take over the field as a whole. After studying at the Faculty of History in Montpellier, she realized that her future would be in Creyssels. After a few internships in the Northern Rhone Valley at the Domaine des Entrefaux, and in Languedoc at Mas Jullien, it is the return to the family estate, the estate where she grew up, the reassuring environment in which she was built.
Alongside her father, Henri, she learned for a few years to tame her land. Initially, one hectare of picnic was planted at the estate and no marketing in bottles was made. There were a total of 10 hectares of vines. A few years later, the estate has expanded and diversified to date to 18.5 hectares.
The Domain now features picket (6,80ha), viognier, marsanne, and roussanne for whites. For reds and rosés, the grape varieties are cinsault, syrah, carignan, merlot, cabernet-sauvignon and tempranillo

Various vintages are made at the estate, from the traditional to the most original, through the rare and original cuvée "Libero".

On Jurassic limestone, Julie gets the best of the prickly.

Besides the classic vintages of the estate, Julie produces under her name some wines (in Vin de France) without added sulphites: "Chichois à la baraquette" (white prick, "Robot Cochon" (tempranillo), "Libero" (rare and original white pestoul to the most original breeding)...
