Fratelli Branca

Fernet-Branca

Italie - Piémont

Fernet-Branca is a mythical Italian bitter that was created in 1845. It is made from 27 herbs including rhubarb, chamomile, saffron and lime.
Slowly macerated for a year in Slavonian oak barrels, its complexity, and thus its success for almost 180 years, is due to the proportions and the blend of these herbs that make it absolutely unique and inimitable.

It was in Milan, in 1845, that Bernardino Branca, with the help of his three sons, founded the Fratelli Branca distillery. A visionary apothecary, he gave birth to Fernet-Branca, a natural and herbaceous bitter aged for a long time in barrels, which was very quickly sought after for its medicinal properties. Known for curing stomach aches and improving appetite, it is even said that Fernet-Branca cured cholera.
One thing is certain: its recipe, which is exclusive and still kept secret, consists of no less than 27 ingredients: herbs, plants, roots and flowers from the four continents. And it is thanks to its unique and inimitable formula that Fernet-Branca has always stood out from other bitters. As proof, from the end of the 19th century, its success quickly spread beyond the Italian borders, until it became an unavoidable reference in the four corners of the world. A great first for an Italian bitter. Fernet-Branca even conquered the United States and Australia.

Since then, it is no longer for its medicinal properties that Fernet-Branca has won people over but for its complex and unique personality.

Present in one hundred and sixty countries, it can be drunk neat or simply diluted with tonic and of course in cocktails. Today, it is still favoured by the greatest bartenders all over the world.

The Fratelli Branca distillery was founded in 1845 by Bernardino Branca and his three sons. As soon as it was launched, Fernet-Branca, their first creation, was a real success. Throughout the 19th century, the reputation of their unique herbaceous bitter quickly spread beyond the borders of Italy, becoming an essential reference throughout the world. Today, Fernet-Branca is still a very popular bitter all over the world, especially in the world of cocktail bars.

The Fratelli Branca distillery is still 100% owned by the Branca family. Managed by Niccolò Branca and his two children, Alberica and Edoardo, it is more than ever faithful to the motto that has made it so successful: "Novare Serbando", that is to say, "Innovate while remaining faithful to tradition". It is under this mantra that the family company continues to develop. The acquisition of Carpano, the creator of vermouth, is the best proof of this. Since its acquisition, Niccolò Branca's signature on each bottle of Carpano Antica Formula guarantees the respect of the recipe born in 1786. As you can see, for almost 180 years, the famous Italian company has continued to represent "made in Italy" with the same pride and high standards.

Natural, bitter and secret: these are the three adjectives that best sum up Fernet-Branca, the flagship product created in 1845 by Bernardino Branca and his three sons. Bitter and herbaceous, we know that the secret recipe is made from 27 different natural herbs from 4 continents.
As for Carpano vermouth, it was born in 1786. Antonio Benedetto Carpano, then a student herbalist, invented the recipe for vermouth that would define the category of vermouth for centuries to come: the combination of wine, spices and aromatics. One of his recipes that has become emblematic, Carpano Antica Formula, is still distinguished today by its notes of vanilla and saffron.
