Catherine Roque has created two major domains in the Languedoc panorama, the Domaine de Clovallon, in Bédarieux, in the Upper Orb Valley, and the Mas d'Alezon, in Faugères.
An architect by training, passionate about the vine, she started out in 1987 by planting unexpected grape varieties, in particular Pinot Noir. This autodidact, mother of three daughters, then took over in 1997 a forgotten vineyard at the highest point of the Faugères appellation, the Mas d'Alezon. It is a superb high-altitude schist terroir.
By dint of meticulous work, as natural as possible (DEMETER certified biodynamic), and by gradually increasing the proportion of Mourvèdre, she is now making one of the most beautiful interpretations of the cru, the confidential Montfalette cuvée. Catherine also produces a very confidential cuvée de blanc, Cabretta, a real gem in the world of great white wines from the south of France.
At Mas d'Alezon, the wines are aged in the most natural way possible, with the minimum of human intervention. In the vines, part of which is in planting, the work is meticulous, demanding, passionate and always the most respectful of nature. The harvest is obviously manual and the work in the cellar aims to intervene as little as possible on the wines, guaranteeing the sincerity of the terroir.
Fair, complex, balanced, the wines of Mas d'Alezon are truly captivating! The wines of Mas d'Alezon are of great finesse and rare nobility. All the wines place this estate at the top of the appellation.
Montfalette is a pure expression of schist, at the same time intense, spicy, complex but with an incredible freshness on the finish. A great wine to keep in the ce...
Resulting from the rebirth of the historic Languedoc appellation "Fine Faugères", this Carignan grape brandy is deep and balanced. A rarity to discover!
Cabretta is a great success from Faugères in white. A rare wine that we will not miss for its aromas of dried herbs and its great precision in the mouth
