 Del Maguey, the best-selling mezcal brand in the United States, was founded in 1995 to bring traditional mezcal to the world. Each Del Maguey mezcal is produced by families in remote villages in the states of Oaxaca and Puebla using four century old Zapotec methods.

     

Del Maguey Vida is a mezcal distilled twice in small stills from the Espadin variety of agave.
This mezcal is made in the village of San Luis Del Rio.


             

Tasting Notes:

Nose: subtly peppery with soft milky notes in the background. Exotic fruits and a touch of varnish. It opens on more animal and farm scents, leather, stable. It becomes mineral, notes of tarmac and hot tire rubber.

Mouth: the attack is soft and slightly salty. It opens precisely on the empyreumatic register with beautiful smoky, ashy notes to open on liquorice. Particularly loquacious, it confirms the mineral notes of the nose and of macadam.

Finish: spices and pepper make a strong comeback. It goes on endlessly on the wood fire. It persists on leather and a note of oil.

Designed in 1995 by American artist Ron Cooper, Del Maguey is also invested in the reforestation of wild agave.

Del Maguey is a collection of fine mezcals, rare and unmixed, distilled by families in Oaxaca. Each mezcal bears the name of the village where it is produced.

The "palanquero" heats red stones in a hole dug from the ground, then prepares the agave hearts that are placed there and cook for days. Then they are crushed in a stone mill to harvest the juice that ferments naturally. Distillation is done in copper or clay stills heated by wood fire. Del Maguey can claim more than 400 years of tradition.

All mezcals Del Maguey are certified organic.
