Located in Marsala, western Sicily, Nino Barraco established his estate in 2004, when he and his wife Angela took over his father's 7 hectares, along with other vineyards from Angela's family. He then expanded the estate, which now covers 10 hectares.
The grape varieties are all local: grillo, catarratto, zibibbo for the whites and nero d'avola and pignatello (perricone) for the reds.
Already when he was a political science student in Palermo, he made a little wine in his spare time with his father's grapes, a small wine that quickly gained in popularity.
On his estate, he works the vines in an artisanal way and the vines are quite old.
In the cellar, fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and very few sulphites. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, Nino Barraco works according to organic principles, without being certified.
This estate has gradually become one of the greatest ambassadors of Sicilian wines, thanks to its traditional and authentic production, and thanks to its whites with a superb minerality.
